Central Christian School, established in 1965 in East Point, Georgia (formerly known as Heritage Christian School and Calvary Temple Christian School), began as the fourth Christian school ministry in the state of Georgia. Opening its doors in September of that year with a kindergarten program, the school quickly expanded, culminating in its first graduating class in May 1974. Remarkably, our first kindergarten teacher remained an integral part of our community, teaching pottery part-time until December 2023.
The school’s founder, Dr. Robert McCurry, was deeply committed to providing a Christian education in response to the changing philosophies of the public school system, particularly following the removal of prayer from public schools in the early 1960s. Dr. McCurry dedicated his vision, talents, and skills to establishing what has become Central Christian School, a lasting legacy of his devotion to quality Christian education.
Over the years, the school has operated from three main campuses. The initial facility, purchased in 1958, was located at 1130 Cleveland Avenue in East Point, Georgia. This modest structure, encompassing approximately 4,000 square feet, served as the school’s home until 1967. In 1965, the school acquired a 4.5-acre property at 2560 Sylvan Road in East Point, where new facilities totaling 17,000 square feet were opened in July 1968. During the next two decades, Central Christian School experienced significant growth, becoming not only one of Georgia’s oldest but also one of its largest Christian schools, with over 400 students enrolled from kindergarten through 12th grade.
In the spring of 1988, the school expanded once more, purchasing 47 acres of land at 3613 Hwy 34 East in Sharpsburg, Georgia, located in Coweta County approximately 40 miles south of the previous location. Facilities totaling more than 50,000 square feet were rapidly constructed, and through God’s provision, the school was able to occupy these new buildings debt-free by October 1988.
Today, our campus remains debt-free, a testament to God's continued blessings. While we honor and cherish our rich history, our focus is now firmly on the future. Situated in a growing community with a prime location between Newnan and Peachtree City, we eagerly anticipate expanded opportunities, enhanced vision, and greater expectations of what God has in store for us.
We warmly invite you to join us in this exciting journey.
